I Programmed Me

This second quarter, I’ve read over and over that we should learn to code. I used to not be interested because I am just a student. At first, I was like, “why in the world should I get into coding?”

But now, I’m here to tell you that I’ve gained enough understanding on the topic and its importance. Even a little knowledge of HTML and CSS can make a big difference in my future career.

The internet has infiltrated nearly every area of our daily life. We've seen it evolve from strictly text-based websites to include images and videos, as well as making websites more engaging and aesthetically beautiful. Equipping myself with fundamental HTML and CSS abilities is beneficial in almost all occupations, just like knowing a foreign language.

First, let's go over the definitions of HTML and CSS. I learned that the short version is: HTML and CSS are the foundations of the web. HTML stands for "HyperText Markup Language," and it's the language that tells your browser what each section of a webpage is. As a result, you may use HTML to specify headers, paragraphs, links, images, and other elements so that your browser knows how to structure the web page you're viewing. It's the foundation of everything you see in a web browser, and it's used to create everything from basic web pages to large web apps and services. The language is written in HTML elements, which are made up of tags contained in angle brackets (such as html>). HTML tags and scripts are not shown by browsers; instead, they are used to comprehend the page's content.

CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is the language that determines the appearance and formatting of certain web pages. In other words, CSS is what allows you to create attractive websites with fancy fonts, vibrant colors, stunning backgrounds, and even smooth animations and 3D effects.

Therefore, HTML allows you to create the structure of your website, while CSS brings it to life.

I accepted the challenges of learning HTML and CSS. The ability to code in any language is a great asset. Regardless of how complicated a website or app is, it is still made with HTML and CSS, the web's fundamental building elements. These languages are well-known for being beginner-friendly and for having a vibrant community. Learning how to code have allowed me to express myself on my own website, to stand out from the crowd, to better comprehend and explore new languages, and to transfer into a different career.
